  • Define a temporal reference system (TRS) based on the proleptic Gregorian calendar and UTC time scale
  • ISO8601 string unambiguously referring to any specific moment in time
  • Correct conversions to and from other temporal system (e.g. highlighting differences between Julian and proleptic Gregorian calendar dates)
  • Properly document the inherent limitations and imprecisions of any conversion or of the use of this temporal system in general for years further away in the past
