Actually, the permission error is slightly different here, as in the transfer case the permission error will only be discovered in transfer. The user is generally going to be writing (and not reading) folders only on their local machine. As such keep this issue open but might wait until such problems are encountered during realistic testing or 'in the wild' to formulate a solution.
