Improvements to tool installation, `gopls` usage and bug fixes

  • Use Go proxy to check if user has an older version of gopls and prompt to update accordingly.
    This can be disabled using the new setting go.useGoProxyToCheckForToolUpdates.

  • Clear diagnostics when language server restarts to avoid linger errors from the previous run.

  • Sort standard library packages before others in the drop down result of the Go: Add Import command. Feature Request 2683 implemented with PR 2803

  • In Go 1.13, GO111MODULE with value auto inside the GOPATH now looks at the presence of go.mod file to determine module mode.
    Updated our debug adapter similarly to recognize module mode. Fixes Bug 2828 with PR 2846
