Virtual Scanner is a hybrid end-to-end MR simulator/console that runs in your browser! What this means is that Virtual-Scanner will let you design and simulate MR pulse sequences and protocols, reconstruct raw data and perform image analysis.

Our work originated as a submission to ISMRM's 2019 Junior Fellow Challenge for Africa. As a response to this problem, we designed Virtual Scanner as a system simulator employable for both educational and research purposes. On one hand, a free and comprehensive MR education tool is needed to maximize the long-term influence of inflowing hardware in underserved areas. On the other hand, most existing MR system simulators are proprietary to manufacturing companies and an open-source, integrated tool will help MR researchers around the world develop and share new methodology more efficiently.

User guide

A quick start guide is included in the repository's README.md.

Click on each component of Virtual Scanner on the side bar to the right for more information.

  • Register : choose a numerical phantom
  • Acquire : simulate MR images using sequence with variable parameters
  • Analyze : generate T1, T2 maps from series of images
  • RF Rx : examine effects of demodulation frequency and down-sampling on time-domain MR signals
  • RF Tx : calculate SAR values from pulseq sequence
