The linked "attachment" was a zip containing an appimage.
I've removed it.
If you have an issue with the appimage and ubuntu, please post screenshot or screen captures, if possible without zipping them.

What I attached was a video, not an appimage. But anyway, I'll upload images later

ok, i made a new try with

https://github.com/scribusproject/scribus/files/2131289/scribus.1.5.zip

there is indeed an image in the zip file.
you did not put any extension, added appimage at the end of the file name and the file itself starts with characters that hint rather to an appimage rather than a screen capture...).

https://github.com/scribusproject/scribus/files/2131289/scribus.1.5.zip

after having said that, it looks like an issue with the theme you're using...

scribus is known to be a bit picky, when Qt themes are not of good quality.

i guess you're using the appimage linked from the scribus downloads.
that image does work on my debian and many other systems.

on the other side, many of the "nightly" appimages do not work here.

the "lyzardKing" is working on a patch for the appimages:
#98

the latest patch he did, works for me
https://transfer.sh/u4kAh/Scribus-ec8d7a6-x86_64.AppImage
but the patch should be further refined to be integrated in the scribus main code.

summary:

  • it's probably a theme / skin issue
  • you might have a "bad" appimage.

"i guess you're using the appimage linked from the scribus downloads." I downloaded from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-devel/1.5.4/

Because that is the route that scribus download provided.
I will try https://transfer.sh/u4kAh/Scribus-ec8d7a6-x86_64.AppImage

thanks for responding

At the moment Scribus 1.5.5.appimage is working fine for me.
Any date for the stable version?
