Product & UX meeting

  • Presenter: @ali-hugo
  • Notes from previous meetings:
    • Core contributors update: “The Paragon Working Group would like to get members of the Product Working Group (and others in the community) more involved in UX discussions. This will allow individuals outside of 2U, not only to keep tabs on design updates, but also to help guide the design of Open edX. The idea is to start a cross-functional meeting for context/knowledge sharing around design. Anyone interested in getting involved?”
    • Previous core contributors update
    • https://discuss.open...: Discussions about setting up a betatester program
    • From Ali:
      • We will (but haven’t yet) documented the beta testing program. Documentation will likely sit in the Product Working Group > Subgroup: UX/UI section of the wiki (unless anyone has a better suggestion)
      • Thanks for bringing Aspects to my attention - it’s the first time I’ve heard of it! The UX/UI group will evaluate how it fits in with the plan we’re developing for user testing
  • Action items: @ali-hugo added both points as discussion points for the next UX/UI meeting.

Is there still an option for the Paragon Working Group to either join the Product WG or the UX/UI WG? Instead of introducing another meeting to the mix. Alternatively with the new system we're proposing, better meeting notes and meeting recordings, they can also keep tabs like that?

@ali-hugo please keep me updated on the following two items if these are brought up in your UX/UI WG call tomorrow. I'll also watch the call for more clarity.

  • Progress on the Beta Testing Program
  • The UX/UI group to evaluate how Aspects fits in with the user testing plans

@cassiezamparini There is no "beta testing program" per se. We are in the process of documenting the tools and techniques we use for user testing in this document. Please add any specific questions or suggestions you might have there.

Thanks @ali-hugo

@antoviaque will you add any thoughts or comments to the document Ali mentioned above ^^ (if you have any)

Is there still an option for the Paragon Working Group to either join the Product WG or the UX/UI WG?

I don't think there has been any objection to that, so imho it would be fine to try - schedule a topic in the agenda of one of the upcoming meetings, and have the relevant people join there? FYI @jmakowski1123

@antoviaque That makes sense to me. @jmakowski1123 In your opinion would it be more beneficial for the Paragon WG to join the Core Product or UX/UI WG? I would think the UX/UI WG as this is their goal: "This will allow individuals outside of 2U, not only to keep tabs on design updates, but also to help guide the design of Open edX. "

@cassiezamparini @antoviaque Here's a quick update on the liaison between the UX/UI and Paragon Working Groups...

Quite a few members of the Paragon group joined the most recent UX/UI meeting. We chatted about how to bridge the gap between the two groups. We are going to discuss this in more detail in our next call. I'll add any decisions we make to the meeting notes.

Thank you for the update @ali-hugo and linking to the meeting notes. It looks like you guys are covering a lot of ground in these calls :)

Looks like the last meeting was postponed, from the notes:

The items from this meeting’s agenda were all punted to the next meeting as few of the presenters were able to join. These conversations will be held in our next call on Feb 8, 2024.

It definitely makes more sense for Paragon folks to join the UX/UI group (rather than the Core Product). Mike Leery is going to be driving some hand-over conversations, hopefully at the next UX meeting. But in general, it would be good to have Paragon folks' input on design presentations, which is what the UX group often spends time doing.

@ali-hugo Can I add this to "done"?

@cassiezamparini Yes, please do.
