Drake was born in Tillë to Líria Kente and Rufus Olaran. He was raised by Rufus, as his mother's family disapproved of the relationship. Rufus brought up Drake under the teachings of Deneir.
Shortly after Drake was old enough to fend for himself, Rufus felt the call of Deneir and left Drake to spread his deity's word to the human tribes of Barria. Drake found steady work in Cape Luz and Suizenloch, using his affiliation with a deity of both the written word and neutrality regarding the laws of mortals to act as a scribe for operatives of Reynard's Den.
Over time, Drake's faith in Deneir began to wane, as he felt a lack of connection to that divine power, but that spark was lit anew when he found a new passion in investigative work. The drive to work on difficult puzzles allowed him to tap into Deneir's divinity in a new way, being driven to solve mysteries and record those newly revealed secrets.
