Hi, I recently rediscovered SomaFM (lost the habit while working at a company that frowned on headphones as an obstacle to collaboration).

I tried the official player and your player, and I'm currently on the fence. I love the simplicity and unobtrusive design of having the entire UI behind a menubar icon rather than having a persistent app window. However, I like having a Favorite Stations list in the larger app, as well as the station descriptions. I don't know if you ever plan to add new features, but these are a few ideas that would tip the scale.

  1. Display station/song on icon hover. Currently when I hover over the icon in the menubar, it says "Click to pause / Right click to show menu". It would be cool to also have something like "Now playing: Groove Salad, Recondite - Riant".
  2. Station descriptions. If hover text is possible for items in menus, when hovering over a station name in the menu, it would be nice to have the station description pop up. I.e., when hovering over Groove Salad the hover text would say "A nicely chilled plate of ambient/downtempo beats and grooves."
  3. Recent stations list in top menu. Changing the station now requires a right-click, then mouse down to the Stations submenu, then hunting for the station in the list, then clicking on it. If a list of recent stations (e.g., up to 10) was maintained in the top menu, it would be much faster to toggle between frequent stations with just a right-click and then a click on a station in the list.

Thanks for your work in building this!

Hi and thanks for the detailed feedback!
Your ideas look really nice and straightforward - I'll look into them when I have some time for the app refactor.
