Support for date input controls is quite good nowadays, and since we're heading to get rid of jQueryUI altogether (#42), these are the most sensible replacement.
This change introduces a BC break regarding the hooks, however, since the value of date input controls is always in ISO-8061 format (YYYY-MM-DD), so existing hooks which deal with date fields will have to be adapted accordingly.
The same BC break applies to default values, which have to be changed to ISO-8061 format (YYYY-MM-DD).
