Debugging Foreign_cc?

Hello,

I was wondering how do I go upon debugging foreign_cc? For example I am currently trying to build SDL2 from source

configure_make(
    name = "SDL",
    lib_source = "@sdl//:all_srcs",
    out_lib_dir = "build/.libs",
    out_static_libs = [
        "libSDL2.a",
        "libSDL2main.a",
    ],
)

however the only info I get from foreign_cc is

Foreign Cc - Configure: Building SDL failed: not all outputs were created or valid
