Which UPP version for use with WRF wrfouts

Hello,

I might need to use UPP instead of ndown to use previous wrfouts as input for a WRF downscaling simulation, but it's not clear to me wether I need using the version 4.1 (here) or the latest version 11.0 (here). I tend toward the first option due to specific WRF variables correspondence, but I would rather appreciate a confirmation.

UPP v4.1 was the last version to be supported and fully tested for WRF output for the community releases. That is the version I would recommend as there is no guarantee that the latest version will work.
There have been others in the past that have used previous WRF output as input for WRF. You can find a related post on the WRF forum. This has never been formally tested and we have only provided info from other contributors.

Hi @htan2013 ,

Links to these deprecated versions of UPP are no longer maintained. You can always clone the code directly from GitHub (I posted an explanation in your Discussion #1014 ), but we highly recommend upgrading to the Unified Forecast System for your experiments because WRF/grib1 is no longer supported, and we cannot provide assistance for running UPP with WRF/grib1 output.

Dear experts,

I have compiled the NCEPlibs for UPP4.1 now. However, when I try to configure the UPP, it shows an error message about:
"sorc/comlibs/crtm2/src/makefile does not exist!
If you cloned the code from github, you probably have not checked out the crtm submodule"

Kindly wondering how to resolve this error. Appreciate your help!

Hi @htan2013 ,

You can look through the current UPP User's Guide, but this User's Guide is for the most recent version, and as I said, use of UPP w/WRF & grib1 is deprecated. Google pops up the old UPP User's Guide for v4.1.0 in PDF form, but make sure to download whatever you are working with, since it could be removed at any time as content is aged off the website.
