Motyl z rodziny rusałkowatych. Występowanie - wilgotne łąki i polany, obrzeża torfowisk niskich.
Wykształca jedno pokolenie w roku

(koniec maja - koniec czerwca). Jego roślina żywicielska w Polsce to czarcikęs łąkowy.
Jaja składane są w kilkuwarstwowych skupiskach

na spodniej stronie rośliny żywicielskiej. Larwy wylęgają się po 3-4 tygodniach, żerują gromadnie.
Stadium poczwarki trwa 2-4 tygodnie.

W Polsce motyl ten najczęściej jest spotykany na Lubelszczyźnie
oraz w okolicach Kielc, ale izolowane populacje występują także

w innych regionach kraju. Na wielu stanowiskach w Polsce gatunek wymarł,
m.in. wskutek zarastania łąk i intensyfikacji ich użytkowania.

W Polsce jest to gatunek zagrożony wyginięciem, natomiast w Europie – narażony na wyginięcie,
ponieważ zaobserwowano tutaj

spadek liczebności populacji o 20-50%. Gatunek ten wymarł w Holandii.
Główną przyczyną takiego stanu w Europie jest zarastanie
<br>
pastwisk drzewami i krzewami lub zmiana ich sposobu użytkowania na intensywny,
co powoduje zanikanie rośliny żywicielskiej.
