Inputs

FHD inputs various models and catalogs, described below.

UVFits

FHD requires input data to be in uvfits format. Conversion into uvfits can be performed with pyuvdata or CASA if necessary. Observations must have a unique string identifier (typically GPS seconds or Julian Dates).

Acquiring MWA Data

To acquire MWA uvfits files, you may use the MWA ASVO service. Once registered and logged in, click "Data Job" in the upper right, select "New Data Job," and then select "Data Conversion Job" from the dropdown menu. We recommend starting with obsid 1061315448, which is zenith-pointed on the EoR0 field (centered on RA: 0, Dec: -27 deg) on August 23rd, 2013, and has minimal radio frequency interference. Proper settings for the query are as follows

  • Observation ID: 1061315448
  • Time Resolution (s): 2
  • Freq Resolution (kHz): 80
  • Edge Width (kHz): 80
  • Output: UVFITS

Check only the following boxes:

  • Do not flag auto-correlations
  • Do not correct for the digital gains
  • Do not abort when not all visibility files are available
  • Flag the centre channel of each coarse channel
  • Centre on pointing centre

By default, the MWA ASVO service applies RFI flags in the conversion to uvfits. The flags are calculated using AOFlagger. Another RFI flagger that has been successful for MWA data is SSINS.

All sky catalogs are located in catalog_data.

  • GLEAM_plus_rlb2017.sav: GLEAM release version 1 at 181MHz for the full-sky with added bright (A-team) sources. It includes a Fornax A component model produced by Patti Carroll with FHD. It does not include Gaussian fitting or spectral slopes.

  • GLEAM_v2_plus_gaussian_sources_rlb2019.sav: GLEAM release version 2 at 181MHz for the full-sky with added bright (A-team) sources and some Gaussian source models. This catalog is designed for implementation with FHD's gaussian_source_models branch, which has not yet been fully tested.

  • GLEAM_v2_plus_rlb2019.sav: GLEAM release version 2 at 181MHz for the full-sky with added bright (A-team) sources. It includes a Fornax A component model produced by Patti Carroll with FHD. It does not include Gaussian fitting or spectral slopes.
